Applications of Trichloromethane/ Chloroform:
Organic synthetic raw materials, mainly used to produce freon (F-21, F-22, F-23), dyes and drugs, in medicine, commonly used as anesthetics.
It can be used as solvent and extractant of antibiotics, spices, oils, resins and rubber.
It can be mixed with carbon tetrachloride to make a non-freezing fireproof liquid.
It is also used as a propellant for aerosols, as a fumigant for grains, and as a standard solution for temperature calibration. A small amount of ethanol is often added to industrial products so that the resulting phosgene reacts with ethanol to form non-toxic diethyl carbonate. Before using industrial products, a small amount of concentrated sulfuric acid can be added after shaking and washing, and dried by calcium chloride or potassium carbonate to obtain chloroform without ethanol.
